High Performance Computing (HPC) has become a significant part of e-Infrastructure. From June 2 till June 4 the Baltic HPC&Cloud Computing Conference and e-Infrastructure related Latvian Presidency events will take place in Riga.

Events will start with e-IRG (e-Infrastructure Reflection Group) delegates Meeting on June 2 in the Riga Technical University main building (Kalku str.1). The open e-IRG Workshop "Open Science and e-Infrastructures" under the auspices of the Latvian EU Presidency of the European Union will be on 3 June.  On June 4 at the Riga Technical University (Kipsala, Azenes str 18) will take place the Baltic HPC&Cloud Computing Conference.  Events are organized by the Office of Vice–Rector for Research at the Riga Technical University with financial support of European Regional development fund.

The first closed e-IRG delegates meeting took place on February 16th, 2015. The location of the meeting was at the Riga Technical University (Kalku str. 1). In this Meeting participated 26 delegates from 14 EU countries, among them experts from e-IRG Secretariat, as well as representatives from European Commission DG CONNECT and DG RTD.

The e-IRG mission is to pave the way towards a general-purpose European e-Infrastructure. The vision for the future is an open e-Infrastructure enabling flexible cooperation and optimal use of all electronically available resources. The e-IRG is formed by official delegations of ministries of science from various European countries. More information about e-IRG could be found in http://www.e-irg.eu.

e-Infrastructure (electronic infrastructure) creates opportunity for researchers of shared use of scientific facilities (computers, instruments, information and data)to increase efficiency and facilitate collaboration. Every country has its own e-Infrastructure and these are connected by European academic network (within GEANT project).

Conference and related e-IRG events during Latvian EU Presidency is a unique opportunity to join e-Infrastructure experts from all EU countries and outside EU. Participants will have opportunity to be introduced to achievements and development trends in HPC and related e-Infrastructure fields, establish contacts and start collaboration with experts and organisations from other countries.

The Conference and related eIRG events are supported by the European Regional development fund within the project „Development of Riga Technical University International Cooperation and Scientific Capacity”, No.2015/0015/2DP/2.1.1.2.0/14/APIA/VIAA/006
