First Study in Latvia Centre was opened in Chennai, India

January 31st has marked the Indian and Latvian history by launching the first Study in Latvia CentrE (SLC) in Chennai. SLC was founded by seven leading Latvian universities: Riga Technical University, Turiba University, Liepaja University, University of Latvia, BA School of Business and Finance, Latvia University of Agriculture and Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration. The opening has been encouraged and supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Latvian Higher Education Export Union. The opening ceremony of SLC in Chennai was attended by international delegates, officials of leading universities of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and prominent academics.

At the inauguration ceremony, Professor Leonids Ribickis, the Rector of Riga Technical University highlighted the role of SLC in establishing and enhancing cooperation in education, science and research between India and Latvia. Professor Leonids Ribickis emphasised that Latvia offers vast education opportunities and international exposure if compared to any other prominent university in Europe. Latvian universities are proud of their highly qualified academic faculty and support staff, modern and well-equipped facilities, libraries stocked with industry-specific journals, magazines and digital records and papers from all over the globe. Contemporary classrooms, lecture theatres, computer centres, study abroad opportunities ensure that students who choose to study in Latvia will receive the best learning experience study in conducive atmosphere. Students drawn from all over the globe get acquainted with international thoughts, precepts, practices and behavior, thus becoming well equipped for the global and highly competitive labor market.

Mr. Imants Bergs the Vice-Rector of International Relations of Turiba University added that the cooperation agreement in the field of education and research between the governments of Latvia and India will enable mutual recognition of issued qualifications, ease of cooperation between institutions and enable Indian students to apply for Latvian government scholarships.
