The NICE Network – New Initiatives and Challenges in Europe – annual international conference took place at Riga Technical University (RTU) from June 15th till 17th, 2014. This year 50 participants from 15 countries took part in the event with the aim of sharing experience, discussing further cooperation and network expansion as well as facilitating the internationalisation process in universities of partner countries.

«The NICE Network» - New Initiatives and Challenges in Europe - is a network of higher educational institutions, uniting more than 35 partners – universities, business schools, faculties and departments of different higher educational institutions – from Europe, North Africa and Asia. This was already the 24th conference. Each year the conference takes place in one of the network partner institutions, this year – RTU Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management (FEEM).

The conference raised issues concerning facilitation of student mobility, cooperation possibilities within the «Erasmus+» programme and other projects, development in higher education quality evaluation, international accreditation and evaluation, as well as internationalisation of study programmes.

Conference plenary sessions and workshops were conducted by representatives of different universities.

As acknowledged by the Head of organizational committee and Vice dean of the FEEM Dr. Inga Lapiņa the aim of the «NICE Network» is not only to promote the internationalisation process, but also to facilitate mobility of the academic staff, students and personnel between partner institutions, improve the quality of mobility and create cooperation programmes and projects, as well as create double degree programmes and improve cooperation in science.

Next year the conference will take place in Switzerland.
