RTU awards the «RTU Scientist of the Year» title

During the 54th International science conference at Riga Technical University (RTU), Dr Jānis Zicāns of RTU’s Polymer Materials Institute was awarded the «RTU Scientist of the Year 2013» title.

The title of «Young Scientist of the Year 2013» was awarded to the head researcher of RTU’s Applied Chemistry Faculty Dr Jānis Ločs.

RTU Professor Jānis Zicāns is an author of 13 SCOPUS publications, manager of ES 7 Framework projects and multiple ERAF projects, state initiatives and one ESF and international cooperation project. In Jānis Zicāns leadership, RTU attracteded about one million lats (1,42 million euros) in funding. One Latvian patent has been received and an international patent application has been applied for.

Last year, Jānis Ločs had published nine scientific articles about different research projects. He had presented his findings on nine conferences in Sweden, Germany, Austria, USA, Norway, Belgium and Poland. In the past, he participated in projects that resulted in two Latvian patents and one application for a European patent. Jānis Ločs has attracted funding of over 150 thousand lats through various projects.

During the festive ceremony, Vice-Rector for Research of RTU Tālis Juhna presented Letters of Recognition to authors of the most cited publications: Kārlis Agris Gross, Māris Knite and Andris Šutks.

The team of the magazine «Vides un Klimata Tehnoloģijas» (Environmental and Climate Technologies) was praised for their commitment. As a result of their hard work, the magazine was indexed in the prestigious SCOPS database.

The 54th RTU International Science Conference was held throughout October 14-16 in all faculties of RTU. More than 700 authors will participate, presenting their work and achievements.
