Professor Remigijs Počs, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Management (FEEM), Riga Technical University (RTU), on 24 November, at the autumn general meeting of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) was elected an academician of LAS.
Gita Rēvalde, Associate Professor of Technical Physics Institute, RTU and senior researcher of the Smart Technology Centre, Ventspils University College was elected a corresponding member of LAS.
According to the LAS academicians’ secret ballot at the LAS autumn general meeting also elected Ina Druviete, Donāts Erts, Aleksejs Kuzmins, Uldis Rogulis, Inna Šteinbuka un Pēteris Trapencieris as full members of the Latvian Academy of Sciences.
Ivars Austers, Uģis Cābulis, Ēriks Jēkabsons, Sandra Muižniece-Brasava, Aiva Plotniece un Andris Zeltiņš were also elected corresponding members of LAS.
Zenon Dabkevičius (Lithuania), Vladimir Gevorgjan (USA), Viktor Sņiečkus (USA) and Jānis Vārna (Sweden) were elected foreign members of LAS.
Mārtiņš Brauns un Arnolds Klotiņš were elected honorary members of LAS.
Whereas, the highest award of the Latvian Academy of Sciences – the Grand Medal and a premium of 10 000 euros each from Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation - at the LAS autumn general meeting were received by full member of LAS Tālavs Jundzis and honorary doctor of LAS Romans Lācis.
Academician Dr.habil.sc.pol., Dr.iur. Tālavs Jundzis was awarded LAS Grand Medal for research of the history of Latvia’s independence restoration. But Dr.habil.med. Romans Lācis was awarded for significant contribution to the development of cardiac surgery in Latvia.
