RTU students victorious in the world's largest robot competition

Robots developed by students of Riga Technical University (RTU) continue to dominate the world’s stage – this time earning three gold medals in the world's largest open robot competition «RoboGames» in San Mateo, California.

The Latvian team celebrated victories in all three disciplines they competed in, winning both gold and silver medals in the most elite discipline «Mega Sumo», as well as a gold medal in the«Mini Sumo» and «Line Following» disciplines each.

The men behindthe robots are Einārs Deksnis, Andis Jargans, Guntars Trimalnieks, Raimonds Kabutavičs, Gundars Miezītis and Guntis Kuļikovskis.

«RoboGames»annually gather the best robotics engineers from around the world to compete in over 50 different disciplines, including combat robots, walking humanoids, soccer and sumo.

With the newest success in «RoboGames», RTU students continue their winning streak. On March 24 they triumphed in the European Robotics Championship in Vienna, earning all three medals in the  «Mega Sumo» discipline, thus qualifying for theworld’s Robot Sumo finals in Japan this autumn.  Vienna also saw Latvians take the first place in the «Mini Sumo» and second place in «Line Following» disciplines.
