Institute of Photonics, Electronics and Telecommunications

The Institute of Photonics, Electronics and Telecommunications (IPET) is a specialized research and educational institution dedicated to advancing the fields of photonics, electronics, and telecommunications. These are critical areas of modern technology that encompass a wide range of applications, from telecommunications infrastructure and electronic devices to advanced photonic systems used in medicine, defense, and computing.

The Institute of Photonics, Electronics, and Telecommunications (IPET) at RTU stands as the university's largest institution in terms of academic and scientific personnel.

As a research-centric unit, the RTU IPET provides an extensive array of services for telecommunications operators, covering everything from project preparation to network installation and analysis. The institute boasts substantial experience in both scientific and industry-driven research projects, including those funded by European Economic Area (EEA) grants, the Latvian National Research Program, the European Social Fund (ESF), and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), etc.

The RTU IPET has also been involved in initiatives like Horizon Europe (e.g., Twinning & Teaming), the NATO SPS programme, and various other projects aimed at advancing next-generation transmission systems, ICT systems, micro and nanophotonics, materials and metamaterials, fibre optic sensor solutions, Smart city technologies, new optical elements, optical amplifiers, multi-wavelength light sources (combs), and traffic control algorithms.

All industry players are dedicated to develop next-generation technologies essential for today’s economic growth. Achieving these critical objectives is possible through variety of programs offered by the Institute of Photonics, Electronics and Telecommunication:
