On 24 of April, Study in Latvia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economics and the Career Centre of Riga Technical University (RTU), organised a meeting of foreign students of the Information and Communication Technologies study programme of Latvian universities with companies in the sector.  Accenture Latvia, Cognizant Baltics, Swisscom, Magebit - international companies talked about the job opportunities and the skills, abilities and knowledge required by potential employees.

The meeting of students and companies from the sectors was one of the measures set out in the Action Line «Attracting Qualified Workers» of the Human Capital Development Strategy promoted by the Ministry of Economy. Lukas Risters, representative of the Latvian Students' Association, presented the results of a survey on employment of foreign students, which reflected the current employment of foreign students, the time balance between studies and work, as well as the interest in working in Latvia after graduation and the factors influencing it.

Students from Azerbaijan, Egypt, India, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Turkey participated in the event. The young people were mainly interested in internship opportunities in these companies, as well as professional and interpersonal skills to be included in a job application.

The companies also informed the representatives of Study in Latvia about the most important challenges and the need for dialogue with the executive and the legislature in order to develop the most appropriate solutions for improving the conditions of residence to ensure equal competition between Latvian and foreign students.

The event was organized by VIAA (Study in Latvia department), Ministry of Economy and RTU Career Center.
